Leonardo da Vinci strode through life inventing things – for him, the world was a big dance of possibilities. In his ‘Notebooks’ in which he wrote down his pronouncements on his various investigations, there are many additional annotations, across the margins or over other writings, in which he lists objects and ideas he wanted to remember: everything from an inventory of all his linen ‘two small sheets, two large sheets, one table-cloth and a half’ to a list of his tableware, books, birds, money…all mixed up together.
These two short (3 min and 1 min ) sound works were made as preparatory pieces for a work for dance and electronics, Leonardo’s Lists. The texts are taken from some of the many notes and remarks that Leonardo da Vinci wrote in the margins and spaces of his Notebooks.
